Week 1 Review

Something I found very interesting was the periodic table of story telling because I am majoring in chemistry and the periodic table is something that I am very familiar with.

Famous Last Words Week 1

My reading for this went somewhat well because I didn’t half read them however I could of done a better job at writing about them. I also believe that my time management had to play a big part on this first week. I believe my best writing that did this week was my story telling. It was cool experiencing to just write whatever I wanted relating back to the fable that I read. It was a different style of writing that I am not used to doing in a college class. I wrote about a farmer, which had nothing to do with a Lion from the original fable. Yet it was very fun just to make up my own story with the same lesson taught by the fable. I remember doing this type of writing back in elementary or middle school, which is something that I always, enjoyed doing. 

            My other classes are tough and even though they are tough I am glad I have this class because even though it is a lot of busy work it is not too difficult. The thing that makes this class a little bit more challenging is the fact that you have to keep up with it if your not ahead. I enjoy reading other people writing because it is very entertaining to see how some people can get so creative with their writing. I believe I have to improve my writing creativity and this class will be able to help me due to all the writing that we have to do. Another goal I have this semester is to balance my time out with work and school. It is something I am sure all of us struggle with that however, for me it is something I really need to get better at.

Storybook Favorites

            A storybook that I found to like was “Roman Empire: Murder of the Highest Degree” because it goes through series of stories about murderous emperors of Rome and all their wrong doings. The introduction does a great job at explain to some of the stories that are going to be covered. For example the story of Nero and how much a murderous emperor he was. I like the overall design of the page because it was easy to skip from place to place with the side box. I think I will use a similar design to this in my own storybook.

The second storybook I found that I really liked was “Storybook of Horror” and all its horror stories. This might just be because I’ve always been a big Horror story fanatic. I used to love reading goose bumps books back when I was younger so the way the author introduced the storybook book hit home. The way the author worded things out in the introduction was good and really I like how the author tried to portray the spooky story telling voice that you usually hear or see in horror movies and books. I really like the design mainly because of the colors and how green and black goes great with Horror stories. Again going back to goose bumps, I believe that is the color of the title of the book as well.

The third storybook I liked was “Tales of Ferocious Pirates” which I liked because I’ve always liked pirates and the introduction does a good job on portraying and describing the pirate’s gruesome crimes. I liked the design the author put on the blog because it is dark just like the characteristics of a pirate. I also liked the design that was used and will probably use something similar if my storybook is dark.

Italian: “Water and Salt” was probably the first story that caught my eye because I feel that I have heard many variations of a similar story. In got my attention mainly because tone of the daughters of the king tells her father that she loves him like salt and water and gets condemned to execution by her father.

European: “Puss in Boots” was very interesting to read for me because of the fact that I had seen the character before on the movie Shrek. Even though I knew who puss in boots was I had no idea what the story behind him was. It interesting how bright and smart puss in boots is in the story and how he is almost like the master rather then the cat of the master.

Homers Iliad: “How the war with Troy began” caught my interest because I was never really aware of how that war started. I had always known of the Trojan War and Trojan horse but never how the fight began. The beginning of the war lasted nine years however it went on from there, which, is something I had no idea about.

Egypt: “The Secret Name of Ra” was another story that really interested me because it informed me of who Ra was. I was aware that he was an Egyptian god but didn’t know much more about him.

Egypt: “Osiris” Also got my attention because the fun fact that when Osiris came to rule he taught the Egyptians how to not be savages. He also taught the Egyptians how to harvest the lands and rely on farming for food then rather the choice of just hunting. In other words under the rule of Osiris was the golden age for the Egyptians because of all the wisdom Osiris brought to them.
