Introduction, Tech Tip: Embedded Youtube Video

Introduction
My name is Angel Giron and I am a senior here at the university of Oklahoma majoring in chemical biosciences/pre-med. My life goals are to become a doctor and give back to my community but also go and help people in 3rd world countries. I am 21 years young and plan on staying young forever. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts but I have lived a huge part of my life in Oklahoma. I am a big fan of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra’s music because it takes be back to “little Italy” in Boston where I used spend a lot of time with my grandfather. I honestly dislike Oklahoma a lot but I try to make the best of it. As you can tell my heart will forever be in the east coast. I consider myself to be very sarcastic but also funny. Some of my hobbies include eating, watching television, studying for finals or just sleeping (notice how I didn’t just put “studying”). However, I also like to play soccer whenever I get the chance to.
A fun fact is two summers ago I backpacked west Europe and was able to see the different cultures found their. I also got the opportunity to run with the bulls in the festival of San Fermin in Pamplona, Spain. There was also a time were I found myself sleeping on a random street in Barcelona because all the hostels were booked. I honestly think back at how many times I got lost because half the time I was just going with the flow of things. However, I have to say I had the time of my life because many unexpected things happened. So through this you can tell I am super laid back in many ways which, is good most of the time.

  1. What is up Angel! I am extremely jealous that you got to run with the bulls in Pamplona. I actually hope to run with the bulls one day! I am also pre-med and I know you probably feel like you see the light at the end of the tunnel since you are a senior. Do you know what medical schools you are hoping to attend?

  2. I relate to the not caring for living in Oklahoma. I have lived here all my life, but I look forward to living elsewhere, hopefully soon. That is awesome that you got to run with the bulls and like Justin, it is also on my bucket list. Going to work in a 3rd world country would be amazing. Kudos to you and your awesome goals.

  3. Angel, I really enjoyed reading your introduction. You seem to be a very laid back person and I really liked that about you! I have always wanted to travel across the sea but have not had the opportunity to do so yet. I am so jealous! Is Italian food really a lot better than "Italian" food here? By the looks of your picture, it seemed like you really had a great time in Europe! Good luck to you, you have some sweet and and unselfish goals that will make you an excellent doctor!

  4. Wow, running with the bulls: that is a new one for a class Introduction, Angel — pretty amazing. And I guess if you manage to stay young forever, you can go back and do that again... and again... and again...

From Boston to Oklahoma would definitely be a big shock. I came to Oklahoma after having lived a long time in California (San Francisco), and Norman was so different. Luckily, everybody was really nice, but I took a lot of trips back to California the first couple of years until I finally started to feel at home.

I'm guessing you got to visit a lot of places and see a lot of things while you backpacked in Europe that will connect up with readings in this class. Maybe you will want to do a project for class that connects up with that somehow... reminiscing about what sounds like a great trip while also exploring the legendary dimensions of the places you visited! Or maybe a Storybook connected with the East coast somehow... like the old Algonquin legends!
The Algonquin Legends of New England

So many possibilities...! You can see what grabs your attention as the class unfolds...

  6. This is by far the most interesting post I have read yet. I think it is amazing that you want to help others in different countries. See I want to become a professional actor for camera 1) because I love doing it and 2) more importantly if I do well enough financially, I can help others in different countries as well. Oh and I like jazz a lot. If you haven't heard them I suggest you check out the Count Basie band. They were and still are to me the kings of swing. I have to ask what the running of the bulls was like. Did you have like a major adrenaline rush? Anyway, enjoyed your post!

  7. Dean Martin is awesome, okay, so I'll just put that first. Although, I've only heard his Christmas album--but I enjoy listening to it each Christmas.
The bull running sounds so interesting! That is quite an experience I'm sure. I like how you said you got lost but it's because you went with the flow! I've never been out of the country, anyway, so that in itself sounds really cool.
Also, moving from Boston to Oklahoma would be quite a shock! I've moved around myself, and so I know the struggle is real!

  8. Hi Angel, I think it is so great that you backpacked through Western Europe, it has always been a dream of mine. I love that you went with such spontaneity, though sleeping on a random street would have been so scary. But then again so would running with the bulls! Hopefully you can find a medical school back in the beautiful east coast. Oklahoma isn't exactly my cup to tea either. Stay young!

  9. Backpacking in Europe! I'm so jealous. I bet you have some pretty amazing stories to tell from your trip. I have always wanted to backpack through Europe because I am very laid back and spontaneous as well, but I think that ship has sailed for me. Its hard to be spontaneous with a 2 year old.

Running with the bulls must have been such a rush. Anything could go wrong and make a wonderful experience a terrifying event! How close did you get to the action? With my luck, I would trip on a curb and be squashed by the crowd. (if you've seen my intro, I haven't had the best of luck with running lately)

I wish you the best of luck with pursuing medicine and I hope you are able to attend school closer to the part of the country you love. I have never been to the east coast but I hope to go there some day. My friend (and boss lol) went to Boston a few years back and absolutely loved it!

  10. Sup bruv. Im from Oklahoma and lived in NYC this summer and I kinda don't like the east coast haha, so cheers, to each his or her own haha. I wish I played more soccer, I actually love FIFA and have mad respect for soccer. I got to play in some pick up games with some youngins in the bronx and that was one of my more memorable experiences besides the rugby. So how close did a bull get to you, and were you drunk getting lost in Barce? hahaha that's the way to do it. Nice meeting you.

  11. Hey Angel! I think it's really cool that you want to become a doctor and help people in 3rd world countries. I've thought about trying to going on medical missions, but I don't have any medical experience. Traveling around Europe must have been a blast! You seem like the type of person it'd be fun to travel with because you're so laid back. Hope your semester goes well and it was nice to meet you!

  12. Hi Angel! It was very nice to read about you. I am always happy whenever I see someone in a pre-med major as I got out of pre-med in my first semester, but now I wish I had stayed. But oh well, that's life. I love how your life is right now, laid back, fun, and hard major at the same time. That is great to read! Keep going and good luck on your future!

  13. Well I am sorry you do not like Oklahoma that much! I know the bipolar weather here drives me crazy sometimes. On a bright note, you picked a great school to go to! I also think it is awesome that you want to dedicate your life to helping others! I would have been so nervous if I would have had to sleep on a street. It sounds like you had a fun trip!

  14. Hi Angel! What a refreshing and funny introduction! I have a sarcastic sense of humor as well, so I can relate to you in that respect. And why did you choose to come to OU from the East Coast? And would you ever want to go back to Spain, even though you were flying by the seat of your pants while you were there? I think we would get along in person, but you seem like a great guy. Nice to meet you!

  15. Hi Angel! I had the opportunity to go to Europe three times, though all of mine have been through school! I kind of wish that I went backpacking, I think that is such a cool experience and you get to see so very much everywhere you go! I am going to school to become a physician's assistant, so I understand your school load as a pre-med major!

  16. Hello, Angel!

You seem like a very laidback, but also very observant guy! I also dislike Oklahoma in general (it is what it is), preferring the west coast to the midwest by leaps and bounds. I have never been to the east coast, however. The way you talk about it makes me very curious. It is also spectacular that you managed to get away to Europe and had such a great time!

  17. Hello there Angel!

I really enjoyed reading your introduction post! I'm sorry that you are not the biggest fan of Oklahoma! I am from Colorado myself, and Oklahoma does not have the beauty nor the amount of activities that I find at home. However, I have found so many friendships in Oklahoma and the people make it all worth it here! I also did some backpacking in Europe this summer. It seems like you would be good for it because you are go with the flow. I booked all of my hostels in advance so I never slept on the street. Maybe I will have to try that sometime though. Best wishes!

  19. Hey, Angel!

I'm a senior, too! It's weird how quickly time flies by.
Haha, I definitely relate to your staying young forever comment. Life goals.

It's really awesome that you want to help out in third world countries. The world needs more people like you.
    Frank Sinatra's music is beautiful!

Being sarcastic is the best form of humor.
Also sleeping on a street sounds adventurous! Sometimes going with the flow and being adventurous makes for the best memories.

It was great getting to know a little bit about you. Good luck with the rest of your semester!

  20. Hey Angel!

You have such an amazing goal and I think that is a great thing to look forward to for your future. Giving back to people is the best thing you can do. Have you ever been on medical missions? Your story about Spain sounds incredible! An interesting approach to the sleeping arrangements but it sounds like it was an experience of a lifetime. It was great to meet you and I hope you are able to achieve your goals!

  21. Hi Angel!

That’s so cool that you went backpacking through Europe. I actually went to Spain this summer for study abroad and then did a bit of traveling around Europe myself. Thankfully I never had to sleep out on the streets though. I can’t even image what that must have been like! But anyways, good luck with the rest of your semester (:

  22. I’m really sorry to hear that you don’t like it much here. I’ve never been to the Northeast but I can only imagine that it is really different! Travelling is definitely one of my favorite things! I have yet to go to Spain but I hope to make it out there one day. It must have been a really incredible experience to run with the bulls!

  23. Hi, Angel. It is nice to meet you and read about where you are form an the activities yo enjoy. I don't really think that I would much enjoy backpacking across a place that doesn't speak my language. I like the comfort of being here and knowing what I am do. It would be pretty cool to run with the bulls some day but I don't have a huge desire to go to Spain for it. It was nice to meet you and good look in med school!

  24. Hello, Angel.

I would love to go to Pamplona to run with the bulls. I bet that was such a fantastic experience. Backpacking would be pretty awesome even if you didn’t get to do something like that. I am hoping to backpack Scotland this summer after I graduate—if I make it through this semester, that is.
    Good luck in medical school!

  25. Who doesn't want to be young forever!? I always feel crazy, but sometimes I feel as if 21 is just so old. How did we get this far in live already? It's gone by so fast. Good luck in medical school and with your senior year. I know that getting ready for school after undergraduate level is very stressful, so I wish you luck! It was nice to meet you!

  26. Hey Angel!

I have lived in Oklahoma my whole life, and I dislike Oklahoma just as much as you. There are so many better places out of Oklahoma. I am currently living on the East Coast and its definitely different than Oklahoma in a good way! I have some family who lives in Boston and I got to visit there last year, and I enjoyed it. Plus I am a Red Sox and Patriots fan. I consider eating a hobby of mine too. It doesn't get much better than some good food. Have a good rest of the semester.

  27. Hi Angel!! Your life goals are admirable! I'm so glad that you want to be a doctor, it's a hard profession to get into and not for everyone. I wish I could say I have been to the east coast or Europe, but I can't. I like that you just went with the flow. That sounds heavenly and more stress free than having the trip on a tight schedule. I always joke about staying 21 forever and I am glad I am not the only one! Good luck with the rest of your schooling!
