Tech Tip: Weather Widget

So I just added a weather widget to my blog. I would say my favorite weather is fall and winter because I like wearing jackets and hoodies. What's your favorite weather?

Thoughts about Comments

The comments that are most helpful to me are the ones found on my stories. It lets me know what people like and do not like about my ideas and grammatical mistakes. Comments that really leave an impression on me are the found were people point out something that they really like. As for my commenting, I believe I could do a better job. I think that something i can improve on is just giving them better feedback on mistakes they have made.

Reading Diary B: Arabian Nights

Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp 1

  • This was probably my favorite because it is the start of the story of aladdin and how the story really went in comparison other versions that i have heard
  • The tragedy of Aladdin's father made the situation worse for aladdin
  • It was not surprising to see that the uncle was really not his uncle
  • I like how in this story aladdin is stuck in the cave and he accidentally summons the genie to save him from the cave.
Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp 2

  • Aladdins mother wanted him to get rid of the lamp because she thought it was bad
  • Aladding ended up falling in love with the princess
  • In the end aladdin gets the princess
  • This story goes along the lines of the stories i have heard

Reading Diary A: Arabian Nights

Scheherazade

  • In it is interesting to me that because one wife did the sultan wrong that the rest of the women he married had to pay the cost
  • it was so ironic that the daughter of the executioner begged him for the same fate as all those other women
  • She ended up marrying the sultan knowing that she was going to die
  • In the end of this story she foreshadows that she will end the horrible reign
The Story of the Merchant and the Genius
  • In this story the merchant is given a year to live and then he has to go back to the genius to die
  • As the story is told Scheherazade is able to live another day begging the sultan to let her live to continue telling the story.
  • This is very interesting because the story she is telling goes along with the story she is living with the sultan who is about to kill her but yet lets her live another day.
  • I liked this because it was wise and witty of her to do.

Extra Reading Diary: Persian Tales

Extra Reading Diary
  • In this story the wolf steals the goats children by over hearing the warning the goat gave to its children.
  • Then gets to its house with its missing children and goes to the wolfs house to fight.
  • The story is very different because in this story the wolf ends up dying by the goat making the goat the stronger of the two.

  • The story is very random because its starts of with eggs into talking about actual chickens.
  • The story is very interesting because the author goes from talking about selling the eggs to buying food and eating it.

Storytelling for Week 4: Sharp Object

Sharp Object
There was once a king who had the gift of a son and he went to a monk to get the young prince’s destiny. The monk told him “The prince destiny is to die by the edge of a sharp object.”

The father of the boy went fourth and locked the boy in an underground room underneath his palace. In the kings eyes this would be the safest spot from any enemies who would try to do the boy harm. In time the king set fourth for the monk to come and teach the young prince.

In time the young prince grew old and the time to take a wife had come. So the prince had yet to leave the underground room where he lived most of his life. The king had made arrangement to have his son marry the daughter of a neighboring king. The wedding day came and the prince finally left his protected room to live life.

There the prince stood at the alter facing the woman he was to wed. There he stared at the woman who was so fine and fair. Her skin glistened in the sun, her eyes as blue as the ocean and her hair as gold as the sun. There the young prince fell madly in love.

They the went on their honeymoon to enjoy there selves being alone and together under the protection of the princess’s father. Little did the young prince know that young princess had men who would kill to be the suitor of his now wife. On the last night of their honeymoon the prince the princess went out for a stroll along the ocean. The moonlight reflected off the water making it glisten. The moment was perfect for the both of them who were madly in love. Toward the end of their stroll two men ambushed them and stabbed the young prince seven times in the back with a golden dagger.

The two men then took off and left the dagger and the young prince lying dead along with the unharmed princess. Once the sun rose up the caretakers of the princess came looking for her and found her lying there with the dead prince. So goes the story of the young prince who was to die by a sharp object.

Authors notes: The story that inspired this story was “The Story of the Wolf-Bride” found in the book Persian Tales by D.L.R. Lorimer and E.O. Lorimer (1919). I kept a lot of the details the same as the original story. However, I changed the characters by adding a king and the young prince. In the end I wanted to show that no matter what, the destiny of the young prince was to die by a sharp object whether it is a dagger or a sword. This is sort of a saying that many people have in real life, which would be “If it’s meant to be then its mean to be.” So this story shows what it is like when something that is going meant to happen just happen such as a motorcycle accident. A person who first gets their motorcycle is bound to get into an accident because of human error. Whether it is a major or minor accident depends on the person and the situation. The point to it is that regardless of anything it will happen. I believe this is what the story is trying to tell the reader. The moral of this story is something that is interesting because although it may seem negative it is partially true.

Styles Brainstorm

Urban Legends of Horror: Styles Brainstorm

Topic. My Storybook will contain horror stories from urban legends. My goal is find four or five horror stories and change up the as much as possible and end them differently from what the original stories are. One story I would like to use is the one I have already posted about which is The Two Corpses, and another story I want to use is Call from Beyond. The main idea for choosing my stories is they have to be suspenseful so in that way I can make my own stories more interesting and keep the reader wanting to read more.

Bibliography:
1.     TheTwo Corpses, from Russian Fairy Tales by W. R. S. Ralston (1887)
2.     Calls from Beyond, from snopes.com

Possible Styles:

Third Person Storyteller: I would really like to have a storytelling character that tells the horror stories to strangers. I could maybe have I could choose someone from the story in first person. I could also make it to where the person telling the story could be random stranger just to add suspense to the story. I could have this old man be the character that adds the third person storytelling. He could add a little more suspense to the story telling the story making it very interesting.

First Person Storyteller: I would able to tell the stories separately from a first person view. In this way each character would be able to explain and depict things much more clearly. This would add a lot more detail to the stories and be able to have the reader dive into the stories as if they were actually in it.

Traveler as Narrator: The stories could be told through the words of an old man who has been traveling from place to place because he has no home. He could be a homeless man who has no place to go, no friends, no family however he speaks to the reader and tells them these tales. I believe this could make the stories more suspenseful because of the fact that they are coming from a random mysterious man.

Meeting in the after life: The stories could be told in a meeting in the after life where each character from each story finds them selves dead and tells the reader the story of their demise. So that in this way the reader is reading what the characters from each story experienced.

Storytelling for Week 3: Honorable Death

Honorable Death

There was once a man who lived as king but before being a king he was a soldier. This soldier had fought in many wars before his time as king. He had made many enemies in his past wars. He was one who would slaughter his enemies quite brutally, but he would make it quick and painless. It was said he once slaughtered a lion with his just a little dagger and managed to survive without any bites or scratches. This king was thought of as an equal to Hercules. Word got out of his actions around the world and many countries feared him. This caused a movement of strong disliking for this man and all wished him the worst. The man continued his acts regardless of his infamy. Eventually this man came to be one of the deadliest assassins known to man.

As years passed by, the man had conquered large parts of the world with his followers and with time became king of a great kingdom. This kingdom was by far the strongest the world had ever seen. It was a kingdom that had no fear of its enemies. Its enemies shivered at the thought of this strong kingdom for it had the ability and resources to destroy their women and children in a matter of hours. It was a kingdom that with its great majesty and power was ruler of all kingdoms and led by the man who had created it.
The man was a true and honest king to his kingdom. He did everything for the kingdom and its people. He was a king who proved to the people that he had risked his life fighting and killing all enemies of the people. Even in his acts of defense for his people he committed atrocities for he was a beast and that was his nature. However, he would never hurt a person and leave them in agony. It was a code of honor he lived by and evoked this practice amongst his man so that they too could be like him. The king had lived his long life fighting and ruling until one day when he got sick of old age and no longer could rule. As it is known there is always evil lurking around the corners and so there it was in the kingdom. There were spies of the enemies in the kingdom where the king resided sick in his castle. The spies were able to infiltrate the castle and smuggle the sick dying king out of the kingdom. The enemies then got a hold of the dying king and they took turns beating the king and then healing him to health for the next day. The beating of the dying king went on for about four days. On the fourth day the enemy king took it to upon himself to beat the dying king personally with a whip. As the enemy king whipped the bloody back of the dying king, the dying king who was once the mightiest fighter of all yelled out, “This is a double death." The king eventually died with the opposite of an honorable death. He who would kill but never torture his enemies died in pain and agony.

Authors Note: This story was based off the story of The Sick Lion found in The Fables of Aesop by Joseph Jacobs (1894). The story of "the sick lion" is about a lion that is sick and old. So the animals that were once its prey take advantage and beat him since he is defenseless. I kept a couple details the same including the last words of the king. For the most part I changed the characters and the settings of the story. I made the title of the story contradict what happens in the story because it is what the king should have had instead of being beaten and given the death he was given. The reason I chose this story was because honor is something that I feel a lot of people lack now in days. It is very evident that people lack honor and mercy on other human beings around the world. I believe that someone in agony or pain whether it is a friend or enemy should be honored. Not just because it is the honorable thing to do but also because it is the ethical and right thing to do. Nowadays people make other people suffer because of their own interest and are not very thoughtful of those suffering. Someone who does not follow this rule is someone who lacks respect and has no honor. This makes me think back to the medieval times when knights although soldiers had a code of honor. That is what I believe all people should have good or bad.
