Reading Diary A: Arabian Nights

Scheherazade

  • In it is interesting to me that because one wife did the sultan wrong that the rest of the women he married had to pay the cost
  • it was so ironic that the daughter of the executioner begged him for the same fate as all those other women
  • She ended up marrying the sultan knowing that she was going to die
  • In the end of this story she foreshadows that she will end the horrible reign
The Story of the Merchant and the Genius
  • In this story the merchant is given a year to live and then he has to go back to the genius to die
  • As the story is told Scheherazade is able to live another day begging the sultan to let her live to continue telling the story.
  • This is very interesting because the story she is telling goes along with the story she is living with the sultan who is about to kill her but yet lets her live another day.
  • I liked this because it was wise and witty of her to do.
