Reading Diary A: Aesop's Fables

Reading Diary A
Lions, Part 1

  • In the story The lions share, the lion may have put a lot of effort but seemed really greedy
  • The fox didn’t attempt to fight the lion for a share but instead walked away with his tail between his legs
  • Although it seems kind of cowardly it was the smart thing to do then get eaten
  • In the story of The sick lion, the old lion was sick so he was beaten by his former preys
  • Even though he might of deserved what he had coming, it shouldn’t be that way
  • “This is a double death growled the lion” which I believe is true because it is not an honorable death
  • Moral of the story is only coward insult dying majesty
  •  In the story Androcles and the lion, Androcles the slave helps the lion from removing the thorn from the lions paw
  • The lion thanks him by licking him like a dog instead of eating him
  • Androcles is sentenced to the hungry lion but instead of being eaten the lion recognizes him and licks him
  •   Moral of the story is gratitude is the sign of nobles souls
  • In The Lion statue, the statue of Hercules ripping the mouth of a lion shows that man is stronger then a lion

  • The statue was made by man there for it is in the perspective of man and not the lion
  •   The moral is that things can easily be represented as we wish them to be

Lions, Part 2

  •   In the story the Four Oxen and the Lion, the thing that I liked was that the oxen worked together to protect each other from the lion
  •   Once they separated because of a quarrel among themselves they were ended by the lion one by one
  •     Moral of the story is team work makes the dream work according to “ united we stand, divided we fall.”
  •  In the story The Lion in Love, the lion took his teeth out and claws off for love and in return his actions ended him
  •      Out intentions and actions can defeat our purpose
Foxes, Part 1

  •  In the story The Fox and the Grapes, The fox tries getting the grapes but does not succeed so he tells himself the grapes are sour
  •   The moral is that we despise things if we don’t get them
Foxes, Part 2

  •   In the story The Fox and The Lion, it is interesting to see how the fox having seen the lion two times is less afraid the third time
  •    The fox is familiar enough to hangout with the lion which comes to show that familiarity breeds contempt
Dogs and Cats

  •     In the story The Fox and The Cat, the fox brags about having many ways to escape enemies while the cat says its got one way.
  • ·      In the end the fox was hunted because out of having so many ways to escape the enemy it couldn’t remember one way.
